She stole my seat. Then taught me this.

Jun 27, 2025

There was a woman in my seat. Window seat. 12A.

I double-checked my ticket. Yep  definitely mine.

I politely let her know. She looked a little embarrassed and said:

“Oh… it’s my first time ever on a plane. I didn’t know seats were assigned.”

She wasn’t being difficult. She just didn’t know.

And it hit me... We do this in business, too.

We get annoyed when a team member does something “wrong.”

But what if…

  • It’s their first time doing it?
  • Or they’ve done it before—but no one showed them how to do it well?
  • Or maybe we thought it was obvious… because it’s second nature to us.

Experience = blind spots.

What’s simple to you might be totally overwhelming to them. That’s why systems aren’t just a “nice to have.”

They’re the bridge between “Why can’t they just get it right?” and “Oh wow, my team’s actually crushing it.”

Systems create clarity. They build confidence.
They make it easy for your team to succeed  without guessing.

Because if you’re always the one saying “I know better,” you’ll never build a team that actually knows how.

If this struck a nerve  in the best way  let’s talk.
